Synopsis; A drama about the awakening of the painter Margaret Keane, her phenomenal success in the 1950s, and the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who claimed credit for her works in the 1960s.

Watch Big Eyes Full Movie: Call me crazy, Tim Burton’s newest dramedy “Big Eyes” starring five- time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams and two-time Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz is a witty, satirical, and thoroughly enjoyable romp at the movies. This is Burton’s best since “Big Fish.”

Watch Big Eyes Full Movie: From screenwriters Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander, “Big Eyes” offers big laughs, harmless fun, and a simple take on a most outrageous story. The film tells the story of Margaret Keane, a painter whose husband took credit for all her works in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. The script is well-paced, though sluggish in spots, and it offers just the right amount of drama and comedy to entertain the audience. There are some opportunities where both the writers and Burton could have offered more development of characters, and the time. If you can get past the tom-foolery of the events that transpired, than you should be able to stick with the elements just fine.

Big Eyes movie

Watch Big Eyes Full Movie: Freshly colored with an array of set pieces, this is one of Burton’s most aesthetically pleasing films of his career. Danny Elfman’s score is the signature touch that we await in all of Burton’s works. It’s subtle yet apparent in nearly all the right ways. Same goes for the stunning costume work by Colleen Atwood, a strong contender for another Academy Award nomination.

Watch Big Eyes Full Movie: Amy Adams is richly immersed in one of her finest and daring turns yet. Her performance is much more internalized than what we’ve come to expect with outlandish roles like “Junebug” and “Enchanted” under her belt. She fixates on the fragility of Margaret and the vulnerability of living in someone else’s shadow.

Big Eyes movie

Watch Big Eyes Full Movie: Christoph Waltz is infectious nearly throughout, with funny tics and beats that add to the film’s nuance. From the surface, it looks as though Waltz may be doing his same shtick but he offers much more than that as the narrative moves on. Similar to his underrated work in “Carnage,” Waltz plays the sleazy, underhanded Walter Keane to pure and menacing results. I’d argue even better than his work in “Django Unchained.”

Watch Big Eyes Full Movie: Co-stars Danny Huston, Krysten Ritter, and Terence Stamp are virtually unused except for a few story beats, which is unfortunate given their considerable talents.

Golden Globes Nominations

Watch Big Eyes Full Movie: “Big Eyes” is a great family film for the holidays. Crafted in an interesting and bizarre story, which offers a vivid and visually compelling film in parts. It’s one of the surprise successes of 2014.

American Sniper Movie (2014)
Director: Clint Eastwood
Cast : Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Salah Salea

Synopsis; Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle’s pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and turns him into a legend. Back home to his wife and kids after four tours of duty, however, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.

American Sniper

Watch American Sniper Full Movie: Demonstrating competent war scenes, along with an astounding and near unrecognizable performance from two-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper, Clint Eastwood’s new film “American Sniper” falters on storytelling and thematic developments. Continuously going back to the sacrifice that our military men and women make, which is perfectly fine, but beating the audience over the head with the sacrifice they make is something we’ve seen before.

Watch American Sniper Full Movie: The tagline of the poster reads: “the most lethal sniper in American history.” You’d expect to see a lot more sniping that led this man to becoming a “legend,” which is what everyone calls him. The inner turmoil for a soldier is understood, but what more does Eastwood and scribe James Dean Hall have to say? Evidently, not much. If you’re looking for a tribute to a soldier, than the film suffices. If you’re looking for a good movie, then this oddly constructed, and often times uninteresting piece will leave you wanting more.

American Sniper movie

Watch American Sniper Full Movie: Eastwood has taken on war films before with “Flags of our Fathers” and “Letters from Iwo Jima.” One of those is gorgeously constructed and moving. Eastwood is obviously pro-soldiers, as we should all be however, the film often rings false as Chris Kyle goes from cowboy, to enlistment, to watching the twin towers fall, and wanting nothing more than to continue to serve. Surely that can be the case in real life with the real Kyle, and this is no disrespect to his sacrifice and memory, but hardly anything that is presented on-screen feels authentic.

Watch American Sniper Full Movie: Bradley Cooper has proved his worth for the past two years with work in “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle.” As Chris Kyle, this could be the best work Cooper has done yet. Unrecognizable and emulating the works of a Heath Ledger and/or Jeremy Renner, Cooper creates Kyle from the legs up, giving him beats that elevate the material. One scene in particular will rid any doubts that anyone has ever had as him as an actor. He’s a marvelous wonder to behold.

American Sniper movie

Watch American Sniper Full Movie: Sienna Miller is vastly wasted in a character that will go down as one of the worst of the year. The supportive wife equivalent of Jar Jar Binks, an overwhelming feeling of annoyance is present every time Miller shares the screen.

Watch American Sniper Full Movie: Tom Stern’s camera has finally been given a flash lens as we’re finally able to decipher what’s going on. A dust storm is expertly shot that helps create palpable tension. The best scene of the film.

American Sniper movie

Watch American Sniper Full Movie: This is one of the Eastwood’s strongest attempts at recapturing his magic from “Million Dollar Baby” but he comes nowhere within its vicinity on quality. I’m unapologetically a person that didn’t find “Invictus” a catastrophe and that remains one of his better efforts as of late. “American Sniper” will have its fans but Bradley Cooper is the only take away from the picture. That’s a marvel to watch. Everything else, not so much.

Selma Movie (2014)
Director: Ava DuVernay
Cast : David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Tim Roth

Click Here to Download Selma Full Movie

Synopsis; The unforgettable true story chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement. Director Ava DuVernay’s “Selma” tells the story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history.

Watch Selma Full Movie: Passionate, informative, and tenderly told, Ava DuVernay’s vision of Martin Luther King Jr. and his fight for voters’ rights is fully realized in her newest film “Selma.” Written by Paul Webb, the film is ambitious, moving, and features a performance fit for the history books from David Oyelowo. It’s one of the single best things you can see in 2014.

Watch Selma Full Movie: In a time where the state of our country is in disarray over race and politics, “Selma” hits our doorsteps at the right time for both sides of the coin to indulge and see how far we’ve come, or how little we actually have. “Selma” shows the good and the bad, the perfect and imperfect characteristics of one of the most important figures in the fight for civil rights. There’s respect, which goes without question, but there’s an emotional and raw honesty that DuVernay and Webb choose to tell us about the man who was Dr. King. She doesn’t paint the rosey picture you’d come to expect from standard biopics these days. She lays it out, leaving us to decide for ourselves if something outside of what he contributed to our country is great enough to look passed. DuVernay offers in many ways, the single best direction of the year.

selma movie

Watch Selma Full Movie: Invigorating from beginning to end, David Oyelowo owns every frame of the picture. You don’t see performances like this too often especially of a real-life figure like MLK. I go back to works like Denzel Washington (“Malcolm X”), Ben Kingsley (“Gandhi”), and George C. Scott (“Patton”) to find a more jaw-dropping or complex acting performance. Something like this only seems to come around once a decade. This may be our decade’s. It’s more than just the embodiment, it’s the decisions in the silence that makes Oyelowo so amazing. You will remember this performance forever.

Watch Selma Full Movie: The entire cast does an admirable to amazing job in their respective roles. Carmen Ejogo is simply electrifying as Coretta Scott King. An impeccable example of wearing the emotions and feelings at the brim without letting go. Just sensational top to bottom.

Selma movie

Watch Selma Full Movie: Despite some hiccups in the accent department, Tom Wilkinson and Tim Roth are serviced well as Lyndon B. Johnson and George Wallace. Both have their opportunities to stand out in their respective scenes but ultimately stand as reminders that we are eagerly waiting to get back to Dr. King.

Watch Selma Full Movie: DuVernay’s triumph comes from the extras and smaller name cast she utilizes as sprinkles in every instance that they appear. Stan Houston as the treacherous Sheriff Clark is superbly focused and embodies the mindset of every unfortunate person of hate during the time. Henry G. Sanders and Keith Stanfield in many ways become the heart and soul of the film without no more than just a few moments of screen time. Oprah Winfrey and Lorraine Toussaint also execute their roles proficiently.

Selma movie 2014

Watch Selma Full Movie: The slick and vivacious manner in which “Selma” is assembled is thanks to the genius people behind the camera. Cinematographer Bradford Young is just too great at what he does at this point in his career. With another stunning framing form in J.C. Chandor’s “A Most Violent Year,” he rises in the ranks to join Roger Deakins and Emmanuel Lubezki as one of the most exciting DP’s. Spencer Averick’s editing keeps “Selma” on pace, and engaging 100% of the time. Jason Moran’s score is palpable and justified in every sense of its usage.

Watch Selma Full Movie: “Selma” is just a joy to behold, a magnificent example of passionate filmmaking that lacked sorely in 2014. It propels DuVernay among the ranks of the best filmmakers working today. Naturally brought to tears, it’s a gut-wrenching and honest look into our history. Fulfilling, promised, and profound. One of the year’s best films.

Unbroken Movie (2014)
Director: Angelina Jolie
Cast : Jack O’Connell, Takamasa Ishihara, Domhnall Gleeson

Synopsis; The life of Louis Zamperini, an Olympic athlete who joined the armed forces during the second world war. Only to be captured by the Japanese navy after a plane crash in the Pacific.

unbroken movie

Watch Unbroken Full Movie: There are so many things to admire when looking upon Angelina Jolie’s English language directorial debut. “Unbroken” checks most of the boxes of a great film. Inspiring, moving, and emotionally resonate, Jolie’s epic lands on the back end of the film year and becomes an instant contender. Pulling out the big guns with legendary cinematographer Roger Deakins, and a Sound team that includes five-time Oscar nominee Frank A. Montaño (“Gladiator”), Emmy-nominee Jon Taylor (“Apollo 11″), Production Sound Mixer David Lee, BAFTA winner Becky Sullivan (“The Fugitive”), and MPSE Winner Andrew DeCristofaro (“To the Arctic 3D”), both technical aspects of the film are among the very best seen, and heard in 2014. “Unbroken” is an uplifting, daunting experience, telling the story of a man who fought against impossible odds to survive. A worldly film that speaks to so much happening today.

Watch Unbroken Full Movie: The screenplay, which went through three drafts by William Nicholson, Richard LaGravenese, and Joel Coen & Ethan Coen, is the film’s biggest hiccup. The first half of the film is entrenched, marvelous even, focusing on the survival and story of Louis Zamperini. The Olympic story, as you’d expect, is secondary to our tale. Playing in flashbacks from Zamperini on a flight mission, then to his early days as a child, rambunctious and being inspired by his older brother to join the track team. Jolie focuses on the world around Zamperini in those early scenes. Introducing an Italian-immigrant mother, praying for her son’s safety and guidance, along with a disciplinarian father. You have moments in those early scenes that call back to “Forrest Gump,” (still unsure if that’s a compliment or not) but the visual aesthetics are well positioned by DP Roger Deakins. Gorgeous to look at 100% of the time.

Watch Unbroken Full Movie: The performances are fully developed. Jack O’Connell, as Louis Zamperini, provides another example of a killer breakout year with other performances in “Starred Up” and “’71.” His dedication to the role is undeniable, losing weight, and managing to elevate some of the more stagnant scenes. He’s an exciting actor to watch. Domhnall Gleeson’s turn as Phil, Louis’ “boat-companion,” is truly remarkable. I do wish we got a split story of Louis and Phil’s journey. There’s a beautiful dynamic that the two have, and that could have been explored. I think it’s just a missed opportunity.

Watch Unbroken Full Movie: The second half of the film is dominated by the aura and presence of Miyavi (or if you prefer Takamasa Ishiara) as the diabolical Mutsushiro Watanabe, commanding officer of the concentration camp where Louis is imprisoned. Just one year after Michael Fassbender scored an Oscar nomination for “12 Years a Slave,” a role that is similar in structure and similar by aura, Miyavi creates a multi- layered man, with so many things going on inside, aching for an explanation for the audience. Not everything will be answered, but he feels the most satisfying of every character on screen. A Supporting Actor contender has emerged in Miyavi. A breakout performance.

Watch Unbroken Full Movie: Angelina Jolie has a firm hand on what is happening on-screen. Rumors have made their rounds that there is a director’s cut, likely about 30 minutes longer. I have to imagine that if true, that is the version that feels more complete. The last quarter is problematic, rushed even, and I imagine that’s where many of the cuts were made. Jolie’s abilities as a filmmaker are way above par for a person on their second feature film. If we look at many director’s second outings, I don’t think you’d find to many as polished or confident as Jolie is behind the camera. She doesn’t shy away from the brutality of the story. “Unbroken” is the most fitting title of any story delivered this year. Encompassing everything that this film is about.

Watch Unbroken Full Movie: Oscar race questions? Thought you’d never ask. Easy pick for a Best Picture nomination with all the crafts its likely to eat up including Cinematography, Film Editing, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and a beautiful score by Alexandre Desplat. In a thin Adapted Screenplay race, the four-man writing team should find wiggle room, and in a just world, Miyavi should join the Supporting Actor contenders and score his first Academy Award nomination. Angelina Jolie will gain lots of respect for what she has constructed. If anything, this begins the narrative and excitement for her next feature “By the Sea” with hubby Brad Pitt.

Jack O'Connell Nice New Movie HD Wallpaper

Watch Unbroken Full Movie: “Unbroken” is a fascinating deconstruction of a man beaten to his core. An enlightening story, featuring star-making performances, and an abundance of masterclass filmmaking techniques. The Oscar race continues.

Wild Movie (2014)
Director: Jean-Marc Vallée
Cast : Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Gaby Hoffmann

Click Here to Download Wild Full Movie

Synopsis; A chronicle of one woman’s 1,100-mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent catastrophe.

Watch Wild Full Movie: In the movie Wild (2014), Reese Witherspoon plays the real life Cheryl Strayed, a woman tortured by personal demons who makes a 1,100 mile hike from Mexico to Canada. Along with the evils of nature and evil nature of man she encounters, Cheryl is on a deep journey of self discovery. The movie is based on the real Cheryl Strayed’s book of the same name. (I didn’t read it) The real Cheryl has a cameo as the first person to pick up Reese’s Cheryl hitchhiking. This is director Jean-Marc Vallee’s follow up to last years critical success, Dallas Buyers Club (2013).

Watch Wild Full Movie: Wild is a great showcase for Reese Witherspoon’s acting talent. From the first seen, the movie sets you up for how painful the journey will be with a do-it-yourself podiatry work scene on a broken toenail. From there on out the pacing is deliberately slow yet methodical. Self discovery requires much time spent pondering life and flash backs. Laura Dern gives a heart breaking performance as Cheryl’s dying mother. Reese has reached a new level in here career with Wild. Cheryl is not a glamorous singer like June Carter, in Walk the Line (2005). One can’t help but be reminded of Emile Hirsch’s role in Into the Wild (2007), or James Franco’s 127 Hours (2010). To call Wild the female version of these is not to do it justice, Reese’s performance is on the same level.

Wild movie

Watch Wild Full Movie: No need to account for gender. I have always been a big Reese Witherspoon fan. Only not the Rom-Com, mainstream Reese; not a fan of the Legally Blonde (2001) series or movies like Sweet Home Alabama (2002). I first fell in love with Reese with Mark Wahlberg in Fear (1996). Then it was Freeway (1996) and Election (1999) that solidified her as a very eclectic, fun actress. If you haven’t seen either of those movies, check them out if you are a Reese fan. I think its interesting this role in Wild is also directed by the same director as Dallas Buyers Club. I think Reese has a very similar career path as Matthew McCaunehey. Both with southern twang and charm who built strong box office credibility with romantic comedies. Now in the second half of their career they are pushing with more challenging roles. Reese’s performance in Wild should earn her a nomination for best actress this year.

Watch Wild Full Movie: Also not to go unmentioned in this film is its solid soundtrack. Simon and Garfunkle’s El Condor Pasa/ If I Could, will haunt you well after the movie is over. The songs play out in echoes, like music from memory in a long time spent reflecting. Songs you just can’t get out of your head in the soundtrack of life. I love the use of Portis Head’s Glory Box in the more ominous drug and sex scenes. That song is a great mood setter. I was excited to recognize Everclear front man Art Alexakis in a small cameo as a tattoo artist. The closing credits has one of my new favorites, Swedish Band First Aid Kit doing a cover of R.E.M’s Walk Unafraid.

Wild movie 2014

Watch Wild Full Movie: In reflecting on this movie, I feel inspired to go on a similar journey. In our modern lives, with all the chaos of technology it becomes a fantasy to “go off the grid”. I think in contrast this could be a very comforting story during the crazy holiday season. Similar to 127 Hours or Into The Wild, yet with far less dire outcomes, this movie is about the triumph of the human spirit. The lesson being that its the ups and downs of life that make the journey all worth it.

Mr. Turner

Mr. Turner (2014)
Director: Mike Leigh
Cast : Timothy Spall, Paul Jesson, Dorothy Atkinson

Click Here to Download Mr. Turner Full Movie

Synopsis; Mr. Turner explores the last quarter century of the great if eccentric British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851). Profoundly affected by the death of his father, loved by a housekeeper he takes for granted and occasionally exploits sexually, he forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in Chelsea, where he dies. Throughout this, he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm, and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty.

Mr Turner

Watch Mr. Turner Full Movie: Mike Leigh is perhaps best-known for his serio-comic social-realist dramas about contemporary British life, films like “Abigail’s Party” and “Life Is Sweet”, but he also seems to be developing a sideline in biographies of nineteenth-century cultural figures. First there was “Topsy-Turvy” about Gilbert and Sullivan, and now we have “Mr. Turner” about the life and career of the artist J. M. W. Turner. Or rather about the latter part of his life and career; when we first meet him he is already middle-aged.

Watch Mr. Turner Full Movie: Leigh has described Turner as “a great artist: a radical, revolutionary painter,” and this is undoubtedly true; Turner’s work, especially his later work, seems to prefigure Impressionism, perhaps at times even abstract Modernism. We must not, however, allow our appreciation of the progressive side of Turner’s work to degenerate into that lazy cliché about the great artist starving in a garret, scorned or neglected by his contemporaries but later discovered by a grateful posterity. (Very few great artists, except perhaps Van Gogh, have ever conformed to this stereotype). He was greatly admired by his contemporaries, was praised in the highest terms by many critics, especially Ruskin, became a full Royal Academician while still in his twenties, never lacked for patrons and died a wealthy man. By contrast his great contemporary and rival, John Constable, whose art seems much less radical to our eyes, had a much harder struggle to establish himself.

Watch Mr. Turner Full Movie: Leigh’s purpose in making the film was to “examine the tension between this very mortal, flawed individual, and the epic work, the spiritual way he had of distilling the world.” This tension is something very obvious in the film. Turner, especially in later life, was noted for his eccentricity. Unlike many working-class Georgians and Victorians who rose in the world, he never attempted to hide his humble origins. He was untidy, had no social graces and could be rude and tactless. He never married but had a number of mistresses. He was estranged from the first of these, Sarah Danby, and refused to acknowledge his two illegitimate daughters by her. (Sarah appears in the film as do two other mistresses, Hannah Danby Sarah’s niece and Turner’s housekeeper and Sophia Booth, a seaside landlady).

Watch Mr. Turner Full Movie: And yet this uncouth, boorish-seeming man was an artist not only of genius but also of a deep spirituality. His obsession with accurately recording light and atmospheric conditions- he once had himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he could paint a snowstorm- was born not only of a concern with fidelity to nature but also of a belief that light was a visible manifestation of the Divine. (His last words are said to have been “The sun is God”).

Watch Mr. Turner Full Movie: How, then, could any actor hope to play so contradictory an individual? The answer to this question comes from Timothy Spall, one of Leigh’s favourite actors. Spall is someone I have normally thought of as a “character actor”, but here he gets the chance to prove himself as a leading man and makes the most of it. His Turner is a grumpy old man, and in his dealings with women something of a dirty old man as well, forever grunting and spitting and forever speaking in a sort of Cockney whine, and yet we are never allowed to forget that underneath his unpromising exterior he is a sublime artist. This is probably the finest performance I have seen Spall give; it won him “Best Actor” at the Cannes Film Festival and I hope that the Academy will bear him in mind when it comes to next year’s Oscars. There is insufficient space to single out all the deserving supporting performances, although I should mention Martin Savage as Turner’s friend and fellow-painter Benjamin Haydon, forever trying to borrow money off him, Paul Jesson as Turner’s father, to whom he was very close, and Joshua McGuire in a comic turn as an effeminate, lisping Ruskin, very different to the way Greg Wise portrayed him in the recent “Effie Gray”.

Watch Mr. Turner Full Movie: The other outstanding feature of the film is its visual beauty. Leigh and his cinematographer Dick Pope were clearly aiming to make it one of those films where every shot looks like a painting in its own right, and certainly succeed in this ambition. Some cinematic biographies of great artists, such as “Girl with a Pearl Earring” about Vermeer, do succeed in capturing the distinctive “look” of their subject, but I think that Leigh and Pope were not actually aiming to make every shot look like a Turner; their palette of colours, for example, is rather too muted for that. Possibly they felt that the peculiar luminosity of Turner’s work would be too difficult to reproduce on film. There are, however, some memorable shots, such as the opening scene by the river in Holland, complete with windmill, and the one where Turner watches “the fighting Temeraire” being towed up the Thames, thereby getting the inspiration for one of his best-known works.

Watch Mr. Turner Full Movie: I am not sure if “Mr Turner” quite justifies the label “masterpiece” which some have tried to pin on it; it can at times be too slow-moving for that. Spall’s wonderful acting, however, and Pope’s striking cinematography make it a film that stands out from the crowd. 8/10

The Theory of Everything (2014)
Director: James Marsh
Cast : Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Tom Prior

Click Here to Download The Theory of Everything Full Movie

Synopsis; A look at the relationship between the famous physicist Stephen Hawking and his wife.

Watch The Theory of Everything Full Movie: The curse of most biopics about famous individuals is that the films in question always boil down a subjects life to a “greatest hits” reel and then stuffs the rest of the run time with a sub-narrative to tie all these moments together. More often than not, this sub-narrative is a love story, which isn’t inherently bad; it’s just that when a proper balance isn’t struck between the major themes and the filler, the results are usually lackluster. “The Theory Of Everything” charts the tumultuous marriage of legendary physicist Stephen Hawking and his wife Jane as they struggle to keep their life together while Stephen slowly succumbs to the symptoms of ALS. And while it puts all of its efforts into trying to be a heartbreaking portrait of a strained marriage (a portrait that at times is quite beautiful), the movie seemingly forgets that one of its subjects also happened to be one of the most brilliant minds of the 20th century.

Watch The Theory of Everything Full Movie: Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) and Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones) meet in college and forge a bond through the universal law of “opposites attract”. Jane believes in romance and poetry and God, while Stephen believes in logic and reason and the rejection of what he calls a “celestial dictatorship”. Jane is pursuing an education in the written word while Stephen seeks to find a unifying theory that can explain life, the universe, and everything. The two fall in love, only to face a roadblock when Stephen is diagnosed with a neurological disorder that threatens to destroy his motor skills one by one, giving him two years at most to live. Jane pledges to stay by his side, and although Stephen beats the odds and manages to live year after year, the struggles of caring for her crippled husband take their toll on Jane.

Watch The Theory of Everything Full Movie: If the above description seems like it forgot to mention that Stephen Hawking was a world famous physicist whose theories were revolutionary and world changing, it’s because for the most part, the movie forgets this too. The most we see of Stephen’s career is regulated to the beginning and end of the movie, with passing mentions made to the evolution of his work made whenever the film needs to remind the audience of where we are in history; such as in a moment shortly after the birth of Stephen’s third child, when his father mentions that Stephen is “world famous”. Having never seen Stephen working on anything beyond giving a lecture or two, we never actually see how he got to this point. It’s frustrating, because the film doesn’t seem to want to find a way to balance “Stephen the Husband” with “Stephen the Physicist”, and so we watch as The Physicist is shoved to the margins.

Watch The Theory of Everything Full Movie: Not that the story of Jane and Stephen is terrible, it’s just that its good moments are few and far in between. A lot of these struggles manifest in tropes so familiar, there was a point when I really felt that this could’ve been any story about a husband and wife dealing with the pain of a partner’s disease. The fact that it involves Stephen and Jane Hawking is, at times, almost entirely inconsequential. These flaws aren’t helped by some of the film’s problematic directing and editing choices. Certain scenes seem to trail on after they clearly should’ve ended, and important characters are thrown into the film far too late, only to disappear again without mention. When Emily Watson showed up almost an hour in without being identified, I was left baffled until Felicity Jones drops a “Mum” in her line to signify who she’s speaking to. Why are we meeting such an important person in Jane’s life, played by such a serious actress, this late in the movie? It’s just one example of some of the sloppy structure choices made by director James Marsh.

The Theory of Everything

Watch The Theory of Everything Full Movie: It’s only Eddie Redmayne, who truly makes his presence as an actor known here, that keeps the movie from sinking into the muddy bog of familiarity. As Stephen loses more and more of his basic motor skills, Redmayne finds ways to make every movement count, whether it’s a playful smirk or a downward glance of pain. His chemistry with Felicity Jones, who turns the inner conflict of Jane’s struggles into a revelatory performance of its own, is endearing; and when the two are allowed to flex their acting muscles they create some of the films greatest moments. Honorable mentions also go to Benoît Delhomme’s gorgeous cinematography and Jóhann Jóhannsson’s powerful score.

The Theory of Everything

Watch The Theory of Everything Full Movie: Ultimately “The Theory Of Everything” has joined the ranks of “Ray” and “Jobs” and “Dallas Buyers Club”: performance pieces more concerned with winning acting awards than telling a good story. As memorable as Redmayne and Jones are, their talents only serve to turn a film that would’ve been completely forgettable into “good but not great”. The Hawking’s deserved better.
